Crash while using GPU rendering on macOS

Resolve GPU-related Adobe InDesign crashes by sharing diagnostic reports with Adobe support.

Adobe InDesign may crash intermittently on macOS due to GPU driver issues. These crashes are specific to Mac systems when GPU performance is enabled and can occur unpredictably during various operations. To help Adobe investigate and resolve this issue, you'll need to generate and share your system diagnostic report.

While Adobe investigates this issue, you can temporarily work around GPU crashes by selecting View > Preview on CPU and switching InDesign to CPU mode.

GPU acceleration conflicts with specific macOS graphics drivers, causing InDesign to crash during normal operations. InDesign will now use CPU rendering instead of GPU acceleration. While this may reduce performance on high-resolution displays, it should prevent GPU-related crashes. You can learn more about GPU performance settings in InDesign to understand the performance trade-offs.

GPU acceleration instability

Launch InDesign if it's not already open.

Select File > Preferences > GPU Performance (Windows) or InDesign > Preferences > GPU Performance (macOS).

Deselect GPU Performance and then select OK.

Restart InDesign for the change to take effect.
