Measure distance between points

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use the Measure tool in Adobe InDesign to calculate distances in your document layout.

The Measure tool lets you check the exact distance between two points to verify spacing and alignment. Measurements appear in the document’s current units and remain visible until you measure again or switch tools.

Navigate to the Eyedropper tool and select the Measure tool.

Position the pointer at your starting point in the document.

Drag to the endpoint you want to measure.

Tip

Hold Shift while dragging to constrain the measurement line to 45° increments.

Select Window > Info if the Info panel does not open automatically.

Info panel with callouts for the cursor coordinates, width and height measurements, and distance from the starting point.
