Update, restore, and replace links

Learn how to use the Links panel to refresh modified graphics, reconnect missing files, and swap source assets in Adobe InDesign.

Use the Links panel to update modified graphics, reconnect missing files, and replace source assets. This helps ensure your layout always reflects the latest file versions and maintains accurate link connections.

Update modified links

Select Window > Links.

Choose one or more links marked with the modified-link icon.

Select the Update Link icon.

Restore missing links

Select Window > Links.

Select any link marked with the Missing   icon.

Select the Relink icon.

Select Search for Missing Links in This Folder to relink all missing files in the specified folder.

Locate and double-click the file to restore the link.

Replace a link with a different source file

Select Window > Links.

Select the link, then select the Relink icon.

Select Search for Missing Links in This Folder if you want InDesign to search for other missing files with matching names.

Select Show Import Options to control how the new source file is imported.

Locate and double-click the new source file.

If you select Show Import Options, choose the required import options, then select OK.
