InDesign (Beta) is available for testing and feedback. Try it now to experience new features.

AI Assistant helps you explore, create, and edit content, layouts, and objects using prompts within the InDesign (Beta) application. You can make quick changes to your design while keeping the parts you want intact.

Select AI Assistant from the Contextual Task Bar. You can also open the AI Assistant panel from Window > AI Assistant, File > AI Assistant, or by selecting the AI Assistant   icon in the top-right corner of the InDesign (Beta) application.

Enter a prompt in the AI Assistant panel. The prompt can be about any of the following workflows:

  • Modify layouts and objects: Adjust positioning, formatting, and structure using simple prompts. Example prompts: Convert this text into bullet points, Create a two-column layout for this page, or Add page numbers to all pages.
  • Ask questions about InDesign: Get contextual help, including how to perform tasks or find tools and shortcuts. Example prompts: How do I create a table of contents? or Explain how parent pages work in InDesign.
  • Perform multi-step workflows: Execute operations that typically require scripting or multiple manual steps.
  • Data Merge support: Interpret user intent alongside the structure of the document template and the semantics of the attached dataset to automatically map data fields to their corresponding placeholders. This eliminates manual field mapping effort and enables accurate, scalable generation of document variations.

Select the Send Prompt icon, or press Enter (Windows) or Return (macOS).

Review the changes directly in your document.
