Change document layout settings

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use the Adjust Layout panel in Adobe InDesign to change your document’s dimensions, margins, or bleed settings.

When you change page size or margins, moving objects around takes time. The Adjust Layout panel makes it easy to reuse your design for new sizes or update margins later. It works best with layouts using guides.

Select File > Adjust Layout.

Set the page size by selecting a preset or entering custom width and height values.

Select the page orientation. The default orientation is portrait.

Select Auto-adjust margins to page size changes for dynamic margin adjustments, or enter margin values in the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right fields.

Enter bleed values in the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right fields to specify the bleed.

Select Adjust Font Size to scale the text proportionally or select Set Font Size Limits and enter the values to specify the scaling range.

Select Adjust Locked Content to reposition locked objects or objects on locked layers.

Select OK.
