Resolve memory-related errors that prevent files from opening in Adobe InDesign.

Insufficient system memory errors occur when the system lacks sufficient RAM to open a file. This condition can occur when multiple applications run simultaneously or when system resources are limited.

Insufficient memory (Windows)

Select the Start menu and type Disk Cleanup.

Select the Disk Cleanup app from the results.

Select the drive you want to clean, then select OK.

Allow the system to calculate the space that can be freed.

Select the file types to remove under the Files to delete option.

Select OK.

Too many running applications take up memory (Windows)

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc and select Task Manager.

Review and identify applications that are not required for the current task under the Processes section.

Select an application or process.

Select End task.

Repeat for other unnecessary applications or processes.

Expand system memory

If the issue persists, increasing the system’s RAM can improve performance and allow larger files to open successfully.
