Scale the user interface

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to adjust UI scaling preferences in Adobe InDesign to match your screen resolution for optimal viewing.

Customize your user interface to match your display requirements for better readability and long-term comfort. InDesign automatically detects your screen resolution on first launch and applies the appropriate UI scaling. If you change monitors, adjust your display resolution, or prefer different scaling, you can manually adjust the UI scaling at any time.

UI scaling is especially useful for high-resolution displays, where default settings can make tools and menus look too small. Your chosen scale preferences affect all interface elements, including panels, tools, menus, and cursor icons.

Select Edit > Preferences > User Interface Scaling (Windows) or InDesign > Preferences > User Interface Scaling (macOS).

Move the UI Sizing slider to increase or decrease the interface scale based on your screen resolution.

The Preferences dialog displaying all the User Interface Scaling controls, including the UI Sizing slider and the Preview.
Review how your changes affect the interface in the preview displayed next to the slider.

Select Scale Cursor Proportionately to automatically resize cursor icons to match your UI scale.

Adjust the Anchor Points, Handle, and Bounding Box Display Size slider to customize these elements independently.

Select OK.

Restart InDesign when prompted to apply the new scaling settings.

Note

The number of available scaling increments depends on your screen resolution. Higher-resolution displays offer more granular scaling options. If you don't restart immediately, changes take effect the next time you launch InDesign.
