Find and replace fonts

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to replace fonts throughout your Adobe InDesign document or identify fonts in imported graphics.

InDesign lets you view all fonts used in a document and replace them with available system fonts. Replacements apply globally, including paragraph and character styles, while fonts in imported graphics must be edited in their source files.

Select Type > Find/Replace Font.

Select one or more fonts to replace under Fonts in Document.

Locate fonts:

  • Select Find First to locate the font in text.
  • Select Find Graphic to locate fonts used in imported graphics.

Select the new Font Family and Font Style in the Replace With section.

Select Change, Change All, or Change/Find.

Select Done.

You can also access the Find/Replace Font dialog box directly from Preflight by selecting Window > Output > Preflight, switching to the Fonts tab, and selecting Find/Replace Font.

Note

The Find Font dialog box cannot replace fonts embedded in imported graphics, such as EPS or PDF files. To resolve missing fonts in placed files, install the missing fonts on your system or recreate the graphic with embedded fonts.
