Import PDF comments

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use PDF comments from reviewed Adobe InDesign documents to manage feedback directly in your layout.

Import comments from PDFs shared for review back into your original document. You can review feedback, accept or reject changes, and track comment status within InDesign.

For accurate comment placement, the InDesign document must remain unchanged after the PDF is created.

Open the InDesign document for which you want to import comments.

Select File > Import PDF Comments.

Browse to the PDF file containing comments for your document.

Select Import comments to add the comments to your document.

You can import comments from multiple PDFs for your document. The comments are imported and displayed in the PDF Comments panel.

Review the comments and take the following actions:

  • Toggle resolution status: Track which feedback you've addressed by selecting Resolve or Unresolve.
  • Accept changes: Select Accept to apply the suggested edit for Strikethrough Text, Replace Text, and Insert Text comments.
  • Remove comments: Select More Options and then select Delete for comments that are no longer needed.
  • Locate comments: Use the Search Comments field to find specific feedback.
  • Filter comments: Select Filter Comments to view comments according to Status (Resolved, Unresolved, Mapped, Unmapped), Type (Sticky Notes, Underlined Text, Highlighted Text, and so on), Reviewer, and PDF Source.

Toggle Show/Hide Comments on Layout to control whether comment annotations appear on your layout while you work.
