Learn how to control video playback in interactive PDFs by adjusting movie settings in Adobe InDesign.

Change movie settings in InDesign to control how video plays in Interactive PDFs. You can adjust playback behavior, choose a poster image that appears before the video starts, and manage video controls. These settings apply to H.264 video files (MP4 and MOV) embedded in the document.

Set up movie playback and display

Use the Selection tool to select the movie object in your document.

Select Window > Interactive > Media.

Choose Play on Page Load to make the movie play automatically when the page opens.

Select Loop to repeat the movie continuously.

Select a poster frame from the Poster drop-down menu.

Create navigation points

Select Window > Interactive > Media.

With the movie object selected, use the preview slider to move to the frame where the navigation point is required.

Select the plus (+) icon below the preview area to add a navigation point at the current frame.

Repeat to add additional navigation points as needed.

Create and set its action to Video > Play from Navigation Point, then select the required navigation point.

Select Window > Interactive > EPUB Interactivity Preview.

Preview the movie to verify playback behavior.

Select File > Export.

Choose Adobe PDF (Interactive) from the Save as type (Windows) or Format (macOS) drop-down menu.
