Change the alignment of a table within a frame

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to use paragraph alignment controls in Adobe InDesign to position tables left, center, or right within wider textframes.

A table assumes the width of the paragraph or table cell in which it is created. However, you can resize the text frame or the table so that the table becomes wider or narrower than the frame. When the table is narrower than the frame, you can control how the table aligns within that frame.

Use the Type tool to place the insertion point to the right or left of the table.

Ensure the insertion point is on the table paragraph, not inside a table cell.

Verify that the insertion point matches the table's height in the frame.

Select Type > Paragraph.

Select the Align left icon, Align center icon, or Align right   icon.
