Learn how to apply colors, effects, and transformations to QR code graphics for custom branding in Adobe InDesign.

Generated QR codes in Adobe InDesign behave as vector graphics and can be customized using standard tools and effects. You can modify both the QR code and its frame while preserving scanability.

Change QR code content and colors

Select the QR code object or frame using the Selection tool.

Select Object > Edit QR Code. You can also right-click and select Edit QR Code from the panel menu.

In the Content tab, modify the data type or content fields as needed.

In the Color tab, select a swatch to change the QR code color from the default black.

Select OK.

Apply frame styling

Select the QR code frame.

Open the Swatches panel or Color panel to apply a fill or stroke color to the frame.

Use the Stroke panel to adjust line weight, style, and corner options.

Go to Object > Corner Options to round or modify frame corners.

Scale and transform QR codes

Select the QR code frame.

To resize the frame proportionally: Drag a corner handle while holding Shift.

To scale both frame and content together: Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (macOS) while dragging.

To resize the frame from the center outward: Hold Shift + Alt (Windows) or Shift + Option (macOS) while dragging.

Use the Rotate tool to rotate the object.

Use the Free Transform tool to combine scaling, rotation, and shearing in a single operation.
