Learn how to use spell check to find and fix spelling errors in your Adobe InDesign documents.

InDesign provides manual spell check, dynamic spelling, and autocorrect to catch errors. Spell check finds misspellings, repeated words, and capitalization issues, and uses the dictionary assigned to the text’s language.

Select Edit > Spelling > Check Spelling.

Select a search range from the Search dropdown:

  • All Documents: Searches all open documents.
  • Document: Searches the selected document.
  • Story: Searches the selected frame, including text in other threaded text frames and overset text.
  • To End of Story: Searches from the selection point to the end of the story.
  • Selection: Searches only selected text. The Selection search option only appears when text is selected before opening spell check.

Select Start.

When a potential error appears, select a word from Suggested Corrections or type the correct word in the Change To field.

Select Change to correct this instance, Change All to fix all cases, Skip to ignore once, or Ignore All to ignore all instances.

Continue until spell check completes.
