You may encounter this error when opening or saving InDesign files. This occurs when the file is already open in another version of InDesign, preventing access to open or save the file.
Close the file in other InDesign instances

Locate the instance of InDesign where the file is currently open.

Close the file in that instance.

Return to your current session and open or save the file again.

Force close InDesign or restart the system

Quit all running instances of Adobe InDesign.

If the file remains locked, restart the computer.

Launch InDesign and try opening or saving the file again.

Change the file name or location

Select File > Save As to create a copy of the file.

Select a new File name.

Select a different storage location.

Select Save.
