Apply page transitions

Last updated on Jun 2, 2026

Learn how to enhance navigation between pages in Interactive PDF documents in Adobe InDesign.

Page transitions add effects such as dissolves, wipes, and fades when navigating between pages in an Interactive PDF. They enhance presentations and digital documents by making page navigation more engaging. Transitions apply to entire spreads and appear only in exported Interactive PDFs, not in the InDesign workspace. They are best suited for sequential viewing, and support may vary across PDF viewers.

Apply transitions to specific spreads

Select Window > Pages, then select the spreads that require transitions.

Ensure the spread numbers below the page thumbnails are highlighted to confirm spread selection rather than individual page selection.

Select Window > Interactive > Page Transitions.

Choose a transition effect from the Transition drop-down menu.

Customize the transition using the Direction drop-down menu, then set the Speed.

Apply transitions to all spreads

Select Window > Pages.

Select any spread in the panel, then set your preferred transition effect and speed.

Select Window > Interactive > Page Transitions.

Select the Apply to All Spreads icon.
