Learn how to fix persistent render or export issues that result in slow export and sometimes unresponsiveness in Adobe Premiere Pro.
With the troubleshooting steps complied to fix common render and export issues, you have ensured that there are no concerns with the system compatibility, available disk space, or naming conventions in the project, and there are no currently known issues that are making Premiere Pro slow down or become unresponsive during rendering and exporting a project.
File format that is not supported
You may be trying to export a project in a file format that is not supported in Premiere Pro.
- Try exporting your project to a different file format. Refer to formats exported directly from Premiere Pro list.
- If exporting to H.264 or HEVC, go to Preferences > Media and deselect Enable hardware accelerated decoding (requires restart).
- If you are not exporting to H.264, select File > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback > Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.
Enabling the Mercury Playback Engine Software Only option may slow down the rendering speed.
- If you’re using a custom export preset, change to a built-in preset.
- Select Queue to open Media Encoder to export your project using Adobe Media Encoder. An added advantage to using Media Encoder is that you can work on other projects in Premiere Pro.
Rendering issues with third-party plugins, transitions, or LUTs
If you’re using a third-party transition or plugin, remove that temporarily from the project and export again.
If you suspect the issue could be with a specific project, try exporting a different one and see if it works. If you can export other projects, your existing project could have a problem rendering third-party plugins, transitions, or LUTs. To resolve this issue, import it into a new project and try exporting again.
Drivers not updated
Ensure your device meets our recommended system requirements to increase your rendering speed. For more information, see Premiere Pro system requirements. Furthermore, ensure that your drivers are updated. We recommend using NVIDIA Studio Drivers.
If your priority is the day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose the Game Ready Drivers.If your priority is stability and quality for creative workflows, including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and live-streaming, choose the Studio Drivers.

Unable to find the cause of the issue
If Premiere Pro still hangs or freezes even after all the previously mentioned troubleshooting steps, try reverting to a previous app version.
