Replace a transition

Learn how to replace transition in Premiere Pro.
Replace transitions
- Open the sequence that contains the transition you’d like to replace.
- Select the Effects panel, select the Transition folder.
- Choose the new transition and drag and drop it on the existing transition in the Timeline panel.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when replacing a transition in Premiere Pro:
- You can only replace a transition with another transition of the same type. For example, you cannot replace a video transition with an audio transition.
- You can keep the settings of the old transition by copying it to a new location in the Timeline panel before you replace it.
- You can customize the settings of the new transition after you have replaced it.
Result
The new transition will replace the old transition, and the alignment and duration of the transition will be preserved. However, the settings for the old transition will be discarded and replaced with the default settings for the new transition.
