Get an overview of the Effect Controls panel and explore ways to view all effects applied to a clip in this panel.

The Effect Controls panel lists all the effects applied to a selected clip. Various fixed effects are included with every clip - Motion, Opacity, and Time Remapping in the Video effects section, and the Volume effects in the audio effects section.

Note:

You can quickly optimize the interface for effects editing by selecting the Effects workspace. Select Window > Workspace > Effects.

By default, the timeline view is hidden, but you can show it by selecting Show/Hide Timeline View   icon to widen the Effect Controls panel.

Use the Show/Hide Timeline View icon to either expand the timeline view or collapse it.

You can select the icon to expand an effect property to display the Value and Velocity graphs.

When a clip is selected in the Timeline panel, the Effect Controls panel automatically adjusts the zoom level of its timeline view. It centers icons for the In and Out points of a clip. You can view the timeline beyond the clip’s In and Out points by deselecting Pin to Clip in the Effect Controls panel. The Effect Controls panel also includes controls for playing and looping audio clips. The keyframe area under the time ruler is where you can set keyframes for the value for each effect property at a particular frame.

Before you start

Ensure that your audio or video clips have effects applied to them.

  1. Select the clip in the Timeline panel to activate the Effect Controls panel.
The Effects Controls panel shows the list of effects applied to the clip. It has all the effects listed with the option to expand and view respective properties.

Note:

It is not necessary to position the Current Time Indicators over a clip to get this view.

  1. To expand or collapse an effect or its properties, select the icon to the left of an effect heading, property group name, or property name. Expanding an effect heading reveals property groups, and properties, associated with that effect.

For example, Three-Way Color Corrector is an effect heading. Tonal Range Definition is a property group. Shadow Threshold is a property. Expanding an individual property reveals a graphical control, such as a slider or dial.

Note:

Fixed effects, including Motion, Opacity, Time Remapping, and Volume cannot be reordered.

Result

You'll have all the effects listed in the Effect Controls panel, and you can expand the properties and start adding or editing values for the selected clips. You can now reorder the effects and drag and drop an effect name to a new location in the list. Only fixed effects, including MotionOpacityTime Remapping, and Volume, cannot be reordered.
