Remove unnecessary cuts while editing

Last updated on Dec 14, 2023

Remove these unnecessary cuts by enabling through edits.

A through edit is an edit when there is no transition, cut, or any other effect applied to smooth the transition between these two clips. It results in an abrupt or "hard" cut between the clips. If you have done many such edits, you can reverse them.

Before you begin

Create a project, add media, and build a sequence on the timeline. Start editing and cutting your clips.

  1. To view through edits, select the wrench icon   at the upper-left of the Timeline panel and select Show Through Edits
When Show Through Edits is enabled, all through edits in a sequence are shown with small white triangles.

  1. To remove a through edit and rejoin the two sides of the clip, select the triangle and then select Edit > Clear.
  2. To remove multiple through edits, use shift-select with the Selection tool and then delete them.

Result

You’ll be able to remove unwanted cuts by enabling through edits in Premiere Pro.

Unwanted cuts will be removed from the sequence.
