Fade in or fade out clip audio (beta)

Last updated on Jan 25, 2024

Fading is a common audio editing technique used to gradually increase or decrease the audio volume at a clip's beginning (fade in) or end (fade out).

Before you begin

Make sure there are two audio clips back to back (without any gaps) on the timeline. Open the Effects panel (Window > Effects).

You can use any audio transition to fade in or fade out audio.

  1. Expand the audio track vertically in the Timeline panel.
  2. With visual fade handles on audio clips, simply click and drag to create a variety of custom fades.
UI shows interactive fade handle dragged to create a fade effect in the audio clip.
Interactive fade handles on the edges of clips can be dragged to create audio fades.

Result

The fade in and fade out transitions are applied between the audio clips. Play back the clip to hear the change in audio.
