Export proxy files by creating standalone lower-resolution copies of your media that can be used independently of your original high-resolution files.

Exporting proxies can be helpful for various reasons, such as sharing work-in-progress with collaborators, reducing file size for archival purposes, or editing on a less powerful computer.

Before you begin

Complete editing your project while working with proxy files.

By default, Premiere Pro uses full-resolution media while exporting, even if you have enabled proxies. If you want to export proxies, explicitly specify it in the Export Settings dialog box while exporting your project.

  1. Select Export in the top header bar.
  2. Configure your export settings as needed.
  3. In the Media File > General section, select Use Proxies.

  1. If necessary, select Use Previews to further speed up the export process. When this option is selected, Premiere Pro uses the rendered previews if a section of the timeline has both a rendered preview and proxy media.

Result

Premiere Pro quickly renders and exports the selected clips or projects using proxies instead of full-resolution files.
