Learn about the limitations when of working with merged clips in Premiere Pro.

Merged clips in Premiere Pro simplify the editing process while working with complex sequences. As merged clips are treated as a single clip in the sequence, you don't have to worry about keeping track of multiple clips. These clips can also be used to synchronize audio and video clips that were recorded separately. However, merged clips present some limitations as well.

Features or commands not supported when working with merged clips.

  • Replace Footage.
  • Full audio channel mapping control in the merged clip.
  • Final Cut Pro XML and AAT interchange formats.
  • Auto-sync using audio waveforms, free-run timecode, time-of-day timecode, AUX timecode, or separate audio timecode.

Other considerations when using merged clips

  • Merged clips or parts of previously merged clips can't be used to remerge or make a new merged clip.
  • Only component clips may be used to create a merged clip.
  • If a particular component clip is deleted, the merged clip may be relinked.
  • Audio results in mono-track only.
