UI option

Function

Automatch Time

Lets you specify the time in the Audio Mixer for any control that has been adjusted to return to its previous setting. Affected controls include Volume, Pan, Effect, and Send parameter knobs in Audio, Submix, and (except sends) Master tracks. Automatch Time affects properties in the Touch and Read modes for effects with keyframes.

5.1 Mixdown Type

Select to choose how Premiere Pro mixes source channels to 5.1 audio tracks.

Large Volume Adjustment

Type the number of decibels to increase using the Increase Clip Volume Many command.

Sum multichannel outputs to mono in Source Monitor

Check to sum multichannel output to mono in the source monitor.

Play audio while scrubbing

Check to enable audio scrubbing. You can create a keyboard shortcut for Toggle Audio During Scrubbing. You can create a keyboard shortcut instead of returning to the Preferences dialog every time you want to turn audio scrubbing on or off.

Maintain pitch while shuttling

Select this checkbox to maintain the audio pitch during scrubbing and playback while using the J, K, L keys and improve speech clarity when playback is higher or slower than normal.

Mute input during timeline recording

Select this checkbox to prevent monitoring the audio inputs while recording the timeline.

Generate waveforms automatically during import

Select this checkbox to let Premiere Pro automatically generate waveforms when importing audio. To avoid showing audio waveforms, deselect this preference.

Render audio when rendering video

Select this checkbox to let Premiere Pro automatically render audio previews whenever it renders video previews.

Use legacy audio effect playback pre-roll

Select this checkbox if you experience audio dropouts during playback. This option is unchecked by default.

  • Off: Faster playback start, but there may be audio dropouts when playing large sequences with many audio clip effects.
  • On: Premiere Pro does all the pre-roll computations before playback starts. So, there is a considerable delay before playback starts. However, there are fewer audio dropouts during playback.

Automation Keyframe Optimization

Linear keyframe thinning: Creates keyframes only at points that don’t have a linear relationship to the start and end keyframes. For example, if you’re automating a fade from 0 dB to –12 dB, select the Linear keyframe thinning checkbox to create keyframes only at the points representing an increase in value from the beginning (0 dB) and ending (–12 dB) keyframes. If you don’t select this option, Premiere Pro creates several incremental keyframes of identical values between those two points, depending on the speed at which you change the value. This option is enabled by default.

Minimum time interval thinning: Select this checkbox and enter a value between 1 and 2000 milliseconds to create keyframes at intervals larger than the value you specify.

Render Edit in Audition files to

Provides you with the following options to save files while sending clips to Audition:

  • Scratch disk location for Captured Audio
  • Next to original media files

Manage Audio Plug-Ins

Select this to launch the Audio Plug-in Manager dialog to let you work with third-party VST3 plug-ins and Audio Units (AU) plug-ins on macOS.
