Learn more about Preferences in Adobe Premiere Pro.

You can customize Premiere Pro appearance and behavior. Most of these preferences remain in effect until you change them. However, the preferences you set for scratch disks are saved with your projects. Whenever you open a project, it automatically defaults to the scratch disks you selected when setting up that project.

  • Select Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Premiere Pro > Preferences (macOS) to open the Preferences dialog and select the category of preferences you want to change.
  • Select Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) to restore default preference settings while starting the application. You can release the keys when the splash screen appears.
  • Select Shift + Alt (Windows) or Shift + Option (macOS) while simultaneously starting the application to restore default preference settings and plug-in cache. Release the keys when the splash screen appears.

Preferences are stored in the following location:

  • Windows: <drive>\Users\<user name>\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\<version>\Profile-<user name>
  • macOS: <drive>/Users/<user name>/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/<version>/Profile-<user name>
