View keyframes and properties in the Timeline panel

Last updated on Dec 14, 2023

Learn how to view the keyframes you have added to animate an effect in the Timeline panel.

If you’ve added keyframes to animate an effect, you can view them and their properties in the Timeline panel. For video and audio effects, the Timeline panel displays the keyframes specific to each clip. For audio effects, the Timeline panel can also display the keyframes for an entire track. Each clip or track can display a different property. However, you can display the keyframes for only one property at a time within an individual clip or track.

Before you start

Create a sequence with audio and video clips, apply effects, and add keyframes to them.

  1. Select the track or video name in the Timeline panel.
  2. For a video or audio track, select the clip and then Show Keyframes button to view the effect applied to it.
The Volume effect showing in the Show Keyframe context menu.
Use the Show Keyframes button to view effects applied and keyframes in the timeline.

Note:

If you do not find the View Keyframes button, use the Customize Video Header and Customize Audio Header in the Time Display Settings option to launch Button Editor.

  1. Select the effect from the context menu to view it in the timeline.
  2. Place the pointer directly over a keyframe to view its property in a tooltip.

Result

You now have the keyframes for the selected clip and effects visible in the Timeline panel. You can hover your pointer around them to view the location and properties applied to the keyframes.

The tooltip displays the keyframe location and the property and options you set for it in the Effect Controls panel. Use this information for making precise keyframe placements. You can note the value you’ve set for a keyframe. You can also compare the location and change in value of two or more keyframes.
