Learn to remove the association between your project's proxy files and the high-resolution media clips.

Detaching proxies can be helpful if you no longer need to work with proxies or if you want to switch back to the original high-resolution media.

Before you begin

View the files in the Project panel, and note the files that have proxies attached. You can add a proxy status column to the Project panel by right-clicking a column header in List view. Search for a proxy and enable the fields you want to display.

  1. Right-click the clip in the Project panel and select Proxy > Detach Proxy.

Select one or multiple clips and detach proxies with one action.

Result

Premiere Pro detaches the proxies. However, it does not delete the proxy files on disk - to avoid deleting files or proxies that could be referenced in another project. You can decide to keep or delete the proxy files.
