Learn about the Markers panel and how to add a marker to a clip in the Source Monitor or timeline.

You can use the Markers panel to see all the markers in an open clip or sequence. This panel also displays the color-coded tags, In points, Out points, and comments associated with clips. If your select any clip thumbnail in the Markers panel, it moves the playhead to the location of the corresponding marker.

Once you enable the Markers panel (select Window > Markers), you can select a marker in the panel to move the playhead to that position of marker in the timeline.

You can also edit the In and Out points of markers to cover just a single frame in time or a time range based on your requirements.

Note:

Before you begin Explore different types of markers on the Source Monitor, Program Monitor, or the timeline.

Add a marker to a clip in the Source Monitor

  1. Open the clip in the Source Monitor from the Timeline or Project panel.

  1. Place the Playhead where you’d like to add the marker.

  1. Select Marker > Add Marker,.

Result

A marker is added to the clip.

Add a marker to a clip in the timeline

  1. Set up a keyboard shortcut for Add Clip Marker in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts (Windows), or Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts (macOS).

  1. Select the clip. Place the Playhead where you’d like to add the marker.
  2. Press the keyboard shortcut you created for Add Clip Marker

Result

A clip marker is added where your playhead was placed.

Note:

You can inspect the marker dialog box by double-clicking the marker in the Source Monitor.
