The Export a PDF tool in Acrobat on the web allows you to easily convert PDF files into editable formats like DOCX, XLS, and RTF. This feature saves time and preserves the document’s original layout and formatting, ensuring a smooth transition between file types while enhancing productivity.
PDF conversion limit
Export a PDF supports conversion of PDF files up to 100MB.
File storage and reprocessing
Once a file is converted to a new format, the original file isn't saved. Learn more about Adobe’s general terms of use and additional terms for Acrobat.com.
Supported PDF types
You can use the Export a PDF tool to convert most PDF files, including scanned documents. However, the following PDF file types can’t be converted:
- Files that require a password to open the document
- Files with permissions applied to prevent printing, copying, or altering of the content
- PDF Portfolios
- Files generated from Adobe Illustrator
OCR support
The Export a PDF tool uses OCR to convert different file types, such as scanned documents, PDF files, or images, into editable and searchable data.
Conversion quality
When you export a PDF to other formats, Acrobat maintains the original PDF's quality in the conversion.
Handling of comments
Comments are transformed into text boxes within the converted document.
Document updates
The Export a PDF tool cannot overwrite an open file. Ensure the initial version is closed before conversion.
