Match a frame with its source

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn t use keyboard shortcuts or menu commands to locate the original source clip of any frame in your timeline in Adobe Premiere.

When editing a sequence, you can quickly locate the original source clip for any frame and open it in the Source Monitor at the exact matching timecode.

This procedure displays the source clip for the currently visible frame in your sequence timeline. The Source Monitor opens the clip at the exact frame that corresponds to your playhead position, allowing you to view additional footage, adjust edit points, or verify the original media. For clips in nested sequences, use the Reveal Nested Sequence command instead to open the nested sequence itself.

Locate the source frame

Position the playhead over the desired frame in a clip on the timeline.

Press F to open the source clip at the matching frame in the Source Monitor.

For clips within a nested sequence, use Ctrl + Shift + T (Windows) or Shift + T (macOS) to reveal the nested sequence in the Source Monitor instead.

Note

If the source clip is already open in the Source Monitor, pressing F moves the playhead to the matching frame. If multiple clips are open in the Source Monitor menu, close the clip first to ensure Match Frame opens it fresh at the correct position.
