Edit offline clips

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

LEarn to modify timecode points, tape names, filenames, and audio formats for offline clips in your project in Adobe Premiere.

Edit offline clips to update their settings before batch capturing or relinking them to source files. You can modify start and end timecode points, tape names, filenames, audio formats, and specify whether clips contain video, audio, or both. These updated settings apply to all instances of the clip in sequences and are used for subsequent batch capture operations.

You cannot edit the Contains or Audio Format settings for offline clips that have already been placed in the timeline. To modify these properties, edit the clip in the Project panel before adding it to sequences.

Update offline clip settings

In the Project panel, select the offline clip you want to edit.

Select Clip > Edit Offline, or double-click the offline clip.

In the Edit Offline File dialog box, modify the settings as needed, update the Media Start and Media End timecode points, change the Tape Name or File Name, or adjust the Contains and Audio Format options.

Edit Offline File dialog showing fields for contents, audio format, tape name, file name, description, scene, shot/take, and log note.
Edit the offline file details, such as its contents, audio format, tape name, file name, and logging information.

Select OK to save your changes.

The edited offline clip retains your updated settings in all sequences where it appears. When you batch capture or relink the clip, Premiere uses these new settings to locate and capture the correct media.
