The Remix tool analyzes beat qualities throughout your music clip to identify optimal cut points and loops. Several factors influence how successfully the algorithm adapts a song to your target duration.

Parameter settings

Adjust these properties in the Essential Sound panel to control how Remix processes your music clip.

Target duration accuracy

The Remix tool finds a version of your music within 5 seconds of the target duration, typically within 1 second. Accuracy depends on:

• Original tempo and composition.
• Available transition points in the song structure.
• Number of distinct musical sections.
• Other parameter settings (Segments, Variations).

Music characteristics that affect remixing

Different song types respond differently to the Remix algorithm. Consider these factors when selecting music for remixing.

Song structure

• Dynamic songs with multiple sections: Benefit from higher Segments values, giving the algorithm more transition options
• Repetitive or simple structures: Work well with lower Segments values to minimize unnecessary cuts
• Songs with strong intros/outros: Beginning and ending sections are always preserved unchanged

Instrumentation

Vocal content

Remix analyzes musical qualities but does not process lyrical content or meaning. When remixing songs with vocals:

• Edits may combine lines from different verses.
• Lyrical continuity isn’t preserved across cuts.
• First lines of one verse may blend into the last lines of another verse.
• Consider using instrumental sections for critical timing points.

Preserved sections and split-clip technique

Remix always keeps the beginning and ending of your clip intact, modifying only the middle section. To preserve specific musical moments at particular points in your sequence:

• Split the original clip at the exact point you want to preserve
• Apply Remix to both resulting clips separately
• Position the clips in your timeline so the split point aligns with your video

This technique creates a seamless transition between the two remixed sections while preserving a critical musical moment.

Verification techniques

After applying Remix, verify results using these methods:

• Look for vertical zigzag lines on the audio clip indicating edit points.
• Move your playhead before each indicator and press Play to hear edits in context.
• Double-click the clip to open it in the Source Monitor for isolated listening.
