Search metadata in the Metadata panel

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to use search terms to filter and locate specific metadata properties in your clips in Adobe Premiere.

The Metadata panel search function helps you quickly locate specific information embedded in your source files and clips. Instead of manually scrolling through extensive metadata schemas, you can filter properties by entering keywords to reveal only matching entries.

Use metadata search to find clips that contain specific information, such as camera settings, location data, copyright details, or custom properties. This is particularly useful in large projects where manually reviewing metadata for multiple clips would be time-consuming. The search filters all visible metadata schemas simultaneously, collapsing the panel to show only properties that match your search terms.

Before searching, ensure the Metadata panel is visible and that you've configured the panel to display the metadata schemas relevant to your search. To show or hide specific schemas, select Metadata Display from the panel options menu.

Search for metadata properties

Select the files or clips you want to search in the Project or Timeline panel.

In the search box at the top of the Metadata panel, enter the text you want to find.

Search field in the Metadata panel is open and the filtering metadata fields for the selected clip are visible.
Use the search field in the Metadata panel to quickly locate metadata fields and values.

Review the collapsed metadata list showing only properties that contain your search string.

To navigate between multiple matches, select the Previous   and Next   buttons to the right of the search box.

To exit search mode and restore the full metadata list, select the close button to the right of the search box.

When you search multiple selected items, the panel displays matching properties across all selections. This allows you to quickly compare specific metadata values or identify clips that share common characteristics.

Tip

If a property differs across multiple selected items, the panel displays "" in that field. This helps you identify which metadata properties vary among your selected clips.
