Nest a sequence in another sequence

Last updated on Apr 2, 2026

Learn how to add an existing sequence to another sequence in Adobe Premiere to efficiently organize and manage your edits.

Select the sequence you want to add from the Project panel or Source Monitor.

Drag the sequence into the active timeline and place it on the desired video or audio track.

Release the sequence at the desired location on the timeline to complete the nesting.

Premiere cuts the selected clips from the sequence, sends the selected clips to a new sequence, and nests the new sequence in the original sequence, starting at the location of the first selected clip.

Note

You don’t need to render audio before editing a nested sequence, as Premiere automatically processes it

Open a nested source sequence

In the Timeline panel, double-click the nested sequence clip you want to edit.

It opens as the active sequence in the timeline, replacing your current view so you can make changes to clips, effects, or structure.

View and edit the source sequence.
