Resize adjustment layers

Last updated on Apr 1, 2026

Learn how to resize adjustment layers in Adobe Premiere to control the area and duration over which effects are applied.

After adding an adjustment layer to your sequence, you can change its size to affect a specific portion of the frame or adjust its duration to limit when the effect appears. Resizing lets you fine-tune how and where the effect influences the underlying clips.

Select the adjustment layer in the Timeline panel.

Select the Effect Controls panel.

Expand the Motion controls and use Scale to increase or reduce the visible area of the adjustment layer.

Use Position to move the resized adjustment layer to a specific region of the frame.

To resize the duration, drag the start or end of the adjustment layer clip in the Timeline panel.

Preview the sequence to confirm that the resized area and timing affect the intended clips.
