Substance 3D Modeler V1.15 Release notes
Version 1.15 overview
V1.15 brings the Primitives workflow to the retail version of Modeler. Primitives offer a new non-destructive workflow that allows you to use highly customizable shapes to create complex geometry. A large selection of blend modes gives you full control over how objects interact with each other, and the non-destructive nature of the workflow makes it easy to make adjustments. Primitives can also be converted to clay and sculpted with all of the Modeler tools you're already comfortable with.
Modeler V1.15 full release notes
Primitives
- Primitives are now available in the retail version of Modeler.
- Primitives offer a new non-destructive workflow that allows you to use basic shapes to create complex geometry using boolean and blending operations.
- Primitives have been available in Modeler's Public Beta version for some time, but additional features are coming with the inclusion of primitives in retail:
- Added 6 more Combine modes to primitives. Each mode has additional parameters so you have complete control over how primitives interact with each other.
- Inset
- Extrude
- Groove
- Tongue
- Repel
- Avoid
- Added a Blending type selector where you can choose between smooth or chamfered blending.
- Added 6 more Combine modes to primitives. Each mode has additional parameters so you have complete control over how primitives interact with each other.
- Properties of the selected object now appear in the Select tool panel, and the Object properties panel has been removed.
Logitech MX Ink support
- Improved support for Logitech's MX Ink pen.
- Adjusted pen position to match the real world position more closely.
- Tuned pen grip controls to be more comfortable.
- Fixed handedness issues. Pen handedness is now determined by the OS.
- Fixed icons.
- Fixed an issue where the pen would sometimes fail to work with clay in Gizmo mode.
Shape detection mode for resolution increase
- A new resolution increase algorithm is now available - Shape detection.
- Shape detection tries to recognize edges and shapes in your layer and uses that information to provide better results when increasing resolution.
- Right click any resolution increase button to change which algorithm is used.
Other improvements
- Export mode now supports the ability to change clay layer resolution.
- The Increase resolution button no longer closes the Actions menu when used.
- In Render mode, the Aspect ratio list has been sorted from square (1 : 1) to least square (32 : 9).
- The Steadicam has been pitched downwards 15 degrees to help avoid cutting off the bottom of your view.
- In VR, added a notification when in Color picker mode so that it’s clearer what the current state of the application is.
- The Assets panel now prefers local assets in searches and displays the correct number of pages based on the results of searches.
- When Limit visibility to scope is turned on in the Outliner panel, sibling layers are now hidden instead of dimmed.
- On Desktop in Gizmo placement, you can once again apply the Warp tool while moving the Gizmo. This fixes a bug that required you to start applying the tool before using the Gizmo.
- Default roughness for new materials is now consistently 61%, matching the default roughness of Modeler’s clay in the past.
- Newly created materials now default to show painted color as diffuse.
- Hovering the name of an shortened stamp folder now shows a tooltip with the full folder name.
- Fixed a bug with the Split tool in Gizmo mode that prevented it from affecting clay in certain scenarios.
- Fixed a bug where the visualisation for unplaced clay would be inaccurate, potentially showing the wrong material, or showing an incorrect resolution preview.
- Fixed an issue where moving a tool off clay while applying it would result in applications with weird rotations.
- Opening the preferences menu now closes the Welcome menu if it’s open.
- Rotation now correctly shows whether the angle is positive or negative.
- Cancelling long operations in VR now works more reliably.
