Frequently asked questions

Substance 3D Modeler (Meta Edition) is available to Meta VR Headset users through the Meta App Store. If you purchase Modeler through the Meta store, you can download Modeler through the Oculus app on your PC. Functionally, there is no difference between Adobe and Meta editions of Substance 3D Modeler (other than where the software was purchased.)

Substance 3D Modeler requires a computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Modeler does not require a VR headset, but we recommend using both desktop and VR for the best experience. Modeler supports numerous headsets. To use Modeler in VR, you will need a supported headset connected to your computer either through wifi (with options like AirLink, SteamLink, or Virtual Desktop) or a physical cable.

Modeler supports most standard 3D and CAD file types, including OBJ, FBX, USD, and glTF.  A full list of supported formats is available here.

Substance 3D Modeler is well suited for beginners in the 3D space. Unlike most 3D modeling and sculpting software, Modeler doesn't require an understanding of concepts like topology or polygons. Modeler is designed to allow you to focus on the creative process, which has the side effect of being very welcoming to newcomers.

Yes, Substance 3D Modeler supports import of meshes, images, and other Modeler scenes into your current scene. The File menu has various import options:

A list of supported formats is available here.

If you purchased Substance 3D Modeler through the Oculus or Meta store and it does not appear in your library, you may need to contact Meta for assistance with your purchase.

If you purchased Substance 3D Modeler through Adobe or the Creative Cloud application and it does not appear in the Oculus library, you can add it manually with the + icon.
