Preferences

Open the Preferences window from the File menu at the top of the screen, or use shortcut Ctrl + K. The Preferences window holds settings that allow you to configure Modeler to your needs.

The Preferences window has a number of subsections available as follows:

  • General: Settings that impact all aspects of Modeler.
  • Editor: Manage general Editor settings.
  • Spatial: Configure VR specific settings.
  • Troubleshoot: Change how modeler submits crash reports.
  • Experimental: Toggle and adjust experimental features that don't fit elsewhere in the Preferences window.

General

The General tab includes the following settings:

  • General
    • Language: Select the language for UI elements in Modeler.
    • Theme: Select a theme to change the appearance of Modeler's UI. Currently, Dark and Light themes are available.
  • Desktop interface
    • Desktop Volume: Adjust the volume of all audio elements while using Modeler on desktop.
    • Interface scale: Change the scale of all desktop UI elements. Increasing scale can help with readability.
  • Spatial interface
    • Spatial Volume: Adjust the volume of all audio elements while using Modeler in VR.
    • Interface scale: Change the scale of all VR UI elements. Increasing scale can help with readability.
    • Spatial Handedness: Set which hand is considered the tool hand. By default, the right hand is treated as the tool hand.
    • Tooltips on controllers: When enabled, touching a button or other control surface will display tooltips that describe controller functions.
  • Pen and Tablet
    • Enable Multitouch:
      • For supported tablets, this setting enables the use of multitouch controls.
      • Use single finger touch to orbit the camera.
      • Use two fingers to pan the camera.
      • Pinch two or more fingers to zoom.

Editor

The Editor tab includes the following settings:

  • De-emphasize unfocused layers: Toggle whether unfocused layers have their visual appearance modified.
  • Show resolution on clay brush: Toggle whether the resolution visualization appears on the brush. This can help to differentiate the brush from clay already in the scene.
  • Use Smooth shading: Toggle whether clay is rendered with smooth shading. Smooth shading can improve the appearance of objects in your scene, but turning it off makes it easier to see individual polygons.
  • Ambient occlusion: Toggle ambient occlusion on or off while in Model mode. This does not affect Render mode.
  • Ambient occlusion in VR: Toggle whether ambient occlusion (AO) is turned on in VR. AO is off by default to improve performance.
  • Ambient occlusion radius: Change the size of the ambient occlusion effect.
  • Enable max refresh rate override: Limit the refresh rate of Modeler while on desktop. This can help decrease CPU and GPU usage while in desktop mode. When toggled on, a slider appears to adjust the refresh rate.

Spatial

The Spatial tab includes the following settings:

  • Spatial:
    • Spatial Handedness: Set which hand is considered the tool hand. By default, the right hand is treated as the tool hand.
    • Mixed reality passthrough: When toggled on, instead of seeing the standard background gradient in VR, Modeler will passthrought the camera feed from your headset allowing you to see the space around you.
    • Keep scene upright: Constrain the rotation of the scene so that the floor and horizon always remain horizontal.
    • Letterbox display: By default the display on desktop while in VR will be cropped for a more comfortable aspect ratio. To see the full picture as it appears in VR, toggle this setting.
  • Haptic feedback:
    • Enable haptic feedback: When toggled on, controllers will be able to vibrate and provide feedback for some actions.
    • Haptic strength: Only available when Enable haptics is toggled on. Changes the strength of haptics.
  • Input tuning:
    • Grab weight: Adjust the feel of grabbing and moving the scene. A high value makes the scene react more slowly and feel heavier.
    • Trigger pressure: Adjust the pressure required on triggers for Modeler to consider the trigger activated. Minimum pressure allows you to partially pull triggers without Modeler reacting, while Maximum pressure decreases the amount of pressure required for triggers to be considered fully pressed.
    • Use palm ergonomics: Certain controllers can appear offset from their real-world location. Try toggling this setting if you find this to be the case.
  • Disable VR: Toggle on to turn off VR on the next launch of Modeler. Without restarting Modeler, VR will continue to work.
Note:

Options to change the appearance of the editor have been moved to the Environment panel.

Troubleshoot

The Troubleshoot tab includes the following settings:

  • Enable crash reporting: Toggle whether the option to submit crash reports appears when relaunching Modeler after a crash.
  • Include Modeler's log: Automatically include the last log file in crash reports.
Note:

Options to change the appearance of the editor have been moved to the Environment panel.

Experimental

The Experimental tab includes the following settings:

  • Live boolean preview: When toggled on, boolean operations will be calculated in real time, providing immediate feedback.
  • Advanced controls: Quest Pro controllers have additional control surfaces. Toggle this feature on to enable the use of the Quest Pro touch pads.
  • Legacy VR Palette: Display the old version of the Palette in VR.
  • Tools displayed as grid in VR: Toggle whether to display tools in a grid patter in the Palette while in VR.
  • Up-resolution method: Select between different Increase resolution algorithms that can provide different results.
Note:

While using VR controllers on desktop, click in on both controllers to reset controller position.
