With the Free Public beta program, you can try out experimental features and builds of Substance 3D Modeler before they reach full release. Public beta builds are generally less stable than the current non-beta build of Modeler, so we advise that you avoid using the Public beta for time-critical work.

Joining the Free Public beta is easy, and doesn't require an existing Creative Cloud subscription. Find out how to join the Free Public beta here.

Don't forget to join the Modeler Community to share your feedback and suggest improvements to these in-development features.

Substance 3D Modeler Beta 1.11.50 overview

Beta 1.11.50 brings new features to the Outliner panel and Export mode, access to multiple up-res algorithms, and multiple smaller improvements and bug fixes.

Check the features below to see what experimental features are currently available in the Substance 3D Modeler Public Beta.

Non-destructive primitives

Primitives bring a new type of object to Modeler that enables a new non-destructive workflow. Primitives let you use booleans between basic shapes to create complex geometry.

UI improvements and new experimental UI

Changes have been made to a number of panels including the Palette in VR, the Actions menu, and the Bottom bar.

You can also now access multiple up-res algorithms, just right click the Increase resolution button to access Legacy, Smooth, or Shape Detection up-res algorithms.

Modeler V1.11.50 full release notes

Note:

There is a known issue where drag-and-drop doesn’t work well with Limit visibility to scope turned on. Starting the drag-and-drop operation changes your scope, which in turn changes which objects are visible in the Outliner.

Turn off Limit visibility to scope from the Outliner settings to get around this issue.

Features:

  • You can now access multiple up-res algorithms. Right-click the Increase resolution button to open a dropdown where you can select between Legacy, Smooth, and Shape detection up-res algorithms.
    • Legacy performs a simple up-res with no additional processing.
    • Smooth attempts to smooth artefacts that can be introduced during up-res.
    • Shape detection attempts to maintain sharp edges and shapes.
  • Added Drag and drop functionality to the Outliner so you can now rearrange your hierarchy from the Outliner.
  • Due to positive feedback, the Quick Actions menu in VR is now the default.
    • You can revert to the legacy VR palette with Preferences > Experimental > Legacy VR palette, however this option will be removed in a future update.
  • Added customizable export topology and UV detail levels in Export mode.
    • Change the export topology and UV detail levels with the controls in the Bottom bar while in Export mode.
    • While hovering over each control, a visualization in the scene displays the detail levels of objects in your scene.
    • Increasing UV detail means an object will be assigned more space in the UVs relative to lower detail objects.
    • Increasing Export topology detail means an object will have a higher polygon density than lower detail objects on export, allowing for more mesh detail to be preserved.
  • Added pages to the Assets panel.
  • Improved appearance of long-form tooltips.
  • Depth maps exported from Render mode are now in 16bit instead of 8bit

Fixes:

  • Added and updated various tooltips.
  • Fixes for asymmetric resizing of certain primitives. Hold Ctrl to resize primitives asymmetrically.
  • Fixed an issue where having the Documents folder on a networked drive would cause Modeler to crash on launch.
  • Cameras are now greyed out in camera selector drop downs if there are repetitions of the camera in the scene and it is unclear which instance is being refered to.
  • Localized a collection of errors that were previously only available in English.
  • You can no longer scope into hidden
  • Fixed an issue where UI elements that are not visible could still be hovered and cause tooltips to appear.
