Cameras allow you to adjust how your scene appears in the viewport, and help you to control the appearance of your scene in Render mode.

Cameras have a few main uses in Modeler:

  • Use a camera early in your creation process to quickly develop the composition for a final render.
  • Switch between different perspectives quickly in a large scene.
  • Change the field of view or switch between orthographic and perspective modes.
  • Use depth of field in renders to create more interesting images.

Manage cameras

Create a camera

To create a camera:

  1. In Model mode, open the Viewport panel.
  2. Use the + button to add a camera at the viewports current position.

When you create a camera, you automatically control the camera, so the camera parameters in the Viewport panel will modify the camera's settings. While you control the camera, moving around the scene will also move the camera.

Switch between cameras

Once you have created one or more cameras, you can switch between them and the Default view with the camera dropdown at the top of the Viewport panel.

Note:

The default view does not remember its own location or settings. Instead, whenever you switch from a camera to the default view, your location and settings won't change, but you will no longer be in control of the camera.

Adjust camera settings

There are two ways to modify a camera's settings:

  1. In the Viewport panel, switch to the camera you want to modify. Then, change the settings for the camera.
  2. You can also use the Select tool to select a camera in your scene. Then, with the camera selected, use the Node properties panel to modify settings for the selected camera.

Use a camera to create renders

In Render mode, the Viewport panel has additional parameters available so that you can adjust how cameras render your scene:

  • Adjust the aspect ratio to change the relative height and width of saved or copied renders.
  • Toggle between a transparent background or including the IBL or gradient background from Modeler.
  • Include a depth map. Depth maps are often useful in compositing applications to create effects like fog.

Once you're happy with the settings for your render, use the Save... button to export a render to a specific file location. You can also use the Clipboard button to copy your render.

Note:

Using the Clipboard button to copy a render of your current view while Include depth map is turned on will result in a glitched version of the render being copied. This is a known bug and will be fixed in a future update.

As a workaround, turn off Include depth map before copying renders.
