With the Public beta program, you can try out experimental features and builds of Substance 3D Modeler before they reach full release. Public beta builds are generally less stable than the current non-beta build of Modeler, so we advise that you avoid using the Public beta for time-critical work.
Joining the Public beta is easy, and doesn't require an existing Creative Cloud subscription. Find out how to join the Public beta here.
Current Beta features
The features below are experimental and currently are only available in the Beta. Based on your feedback, these features may be integrated into the retail version of Modeler.
Asset search
The Assets panel allows you to search Adobe Stock for 3D objects and quickly bring them into your scene.
You can search by typing in keywords, but the Assets panel also has the powerful ability to search based on objects already in your scene. Select one or more layers or groups, and turn on Shape matching in the Assets panel to find similarly shaped objects.
Use the filters to limit results to match your needs.
The Assets panel makes kitbashing easy and provides the ability to quickly add details to your scenes.
Increase REsolution improvements
Adobe Research has helped introduce an improved algorithm for increasing clay resolution to Modeler. The improved upres algorithm does a better job of maintaining sharp details like corners and edges which drastically reduces the amount of manual cleanup needed when increasing resolution.
Beta 1.9.50 Release notes
V1.9.50 brings some general UI and quality-of-life improvements.
Features:
- Improved loading of alpha textures.
- Subtools are now remembered in the Toolbar.
- If you switch to the Split tool, for example, the Erase tool button in the Toolbar changes to the Split tool.
- This only lasts for the current session, when you reopen Modeler, the default tools will be displayed in the Toolbar.
- This change does not affect shortcuts.
- Updated the text of the screenshot button to “Render” and changed the icon.
- Updated the appearance of the Assets panel to be more in line with other Modeler UI.
- Improved the behavior of the Field of View slider in the Viewport panel so that it dynamically updates the camera as it moves.
- Keyboard shortcut changes:
- While in any tool other than the Select tool, the Shift key now temporarily switches to the Smooth tool.
- While using the Select tool, Shift still enables angle snapping for rotations.
- There is not currently a shortcut to equip the Smooth tool permanently.
- Keyboard shortcut D now equips the Flatten tool.
- Keyboard shortcut Z while using the Warp tool restricts the Warp to the normal of the warped surface.
- Keyboard shortcut Q now equips the eyedropper tool
- The average mode has been removed from the Flatten tool. You can now only use additive or subtractive modes with the Flatten tool.
Fixes:
- Fixed some translation errors.
- Fixed some tooltip strings.
- Fixed some issues with the camera UI.
- Fixed an issue where the Make stamp button would be disabled for no reason.
- Changing your focus with the buttons on the left side of the Bottom bar now performs cleanup in the same way as changing focus by other methods. For example, if you scope out of an empty layer by focusing on a higher object, the empty layer will be deleted.
- VDB import now fails correctly if nothing valid was imported.
- Copying screenshots while Include depth map is turned on no longer results in a magenta monstrosity.
- Using Ctrl+D to duplicate objects now selects the duplicate instead of the original object.
- Fixed an issue where using the file browser for too long would prevent error toasts from appearing.
- Fixed some English strings.
- The Flatten tool now works correctly when the cursor is not on a clay surface.
- The Flattening plane will stop appearing when the cursor isn’t over a surface.
- The Inflate tool’s pressure parameter now defaults to On, like other tools.
