With the Free Public beta program, you can try out experimental features and builds of Substance 3D Modeler before they reach full release. Public beta builds are generally less stable than the current non-beta build of Modeler, so we advise that you avoid using the Public beta for time-critical work.
Joining the Free Public beta is easy, and doesn't require an existing Creative Cloud subscription. Find out how to join the Free Public beta here.
Don't forget to join the Modeler Community to share your feedback and suggest improvements to these in-development features.
Substance 3D Modeler Beta 1.10.50 overview
Beta 1.10.50 brings a couple of major features and a number of smaller improvements and bug fixes.
Non-destructive primitives
Primitives bring a new type of object to Modeler that enables a new non-destructive workflow. Primitives let you use booleans between basic shapes to create complex geometry.
Outliner
The Outliner provides an overview of your scene. The Outliner provides another way to select and focus on objects, but also lets you more easily manage the hierarchies of objects in complex scenes.
UI improvements and new experimental UI
Changes have been made to a number of panels including the Palette in VR, the Actions menu, and the Bottom bar. Additionally a new Quick Actions menu is available in VR. To enable the Quick Actions menu, use Preferences > Experimental > Spatial quick actions UI.
With the Spatial quick actions UI enabled, Actions are available right next to the support controller whenever the Palette is open in VR.
Modeler V1.10.50 full release notes
Known issue: Duplicating objects that are working as booleans will not have their boolean status copied to the new duplicates. This will be fixed in the next release.
Features:
- Introducing the outliner panel:
- Use the outliner to get an understanding of the hierarchy of objects in your scene.
- Non-destructive primitives are here:
- Primitives are a new type of object that can interact with each other through boolean operations.
- Use primitives to create full hard surface objects, or to block out more organic scenes.
- Blend between primitives to create more organic shapes.
- The Buildup, Inflate and Raise tools are now subtools of the Surface tool.
- The Raise tool is a new tool that raises or lowers the surface of clay. It behaves the same as the Buildup tool previously did while in Clay mode.
- Improvements to surfacing tools:
- The Inflate tool now applies continuously when Spacing is set to 0.
- Removed the ringing artifacts that could appear when using the Crease tool.
- Improved how the Crease tool behaves when moved off the surface of clay.
- Changed how the Strength slider works so that tool behavior is consistent independent of object scale for the Buildup, Crease, and Inflate tools.
- When working across multiple layers, surfacing tools will now use a single surface average plane based on all objects under the brush, instead of generating a unique plane for each object.
- Introduced a new optional Quick actions menu in VR. Turn it on from the Preferences menu > Experimental > Quick Actions.
- Added asymmetric resizing in VR, use T2 to resize the brush from one side.
- You can now subdivide meshes on import.
- Improved the appearance of the actions menu and bottom bar.
- Updated the appearance of the VR Palette.
- You can now rename materials while editing the Material properties, without needing to return to the Material list.
- Material ID’s are no longer displayed by default. To see the material ID, hover the material name, the ID appears in the tooltip.
- There are now individual controls to toggle SSAO for desktop and VR separately.
- SSAO in VR now defaults to off.
- Added various common text editing shortcuts when modifying text fields such as material names:
- Ctrl + A, Ctrl + Shift + arrow keys, Shift + Del, Shift + Backspace, Double Click to select.
- It’s now possible to move around the scene while an export is being processed.
Fixes:
- Fixed an issue where warping while in gizmo placement mode could cause faulty undo/redo behavior.
- The camera FOV slider now displays horizontal FOV.
- Releasing left-click while dragging a tool out of the Modeler window now releases the tool as expected.
- Fixed an issue where messages could be doubled when loading stamps.
- Using the keyboard shortcut to cycle through object, parent, and world space now cycles through all 3 options when in Gizmo placement mode.
- The viewport now updates as expected when changing the camera or modifying camera settings.
- Fixed the flickering that would occur when warping multiple layers.a
- Default document save names are now translated based on the language Modeler is set to use.
- Fixed an issue where certain disabled buttons would still “work” if clicked, which could cause crashes.
- Capture mode is now disabled for devices that don’t support hardware ray tracing. These devices are outside the minimum specifications that Modeler requires.
- Fixed a crash that could be caused by the audio system.
- Fixed a bug where stamp folders could appear twice.
