With the Free Public beta program, you can try out experimental features and builds of Substance 3D Modeler before they reach full release. Public beta builds are generally less stable than the current non-beta build of Modeler, so we advise that you avoid using the Public beta for time-critical work.

Joining the Free Public beta is easy, and doesn't require an existing Creative Cloud subscription. Find out how to join the Free Public beta here.

Don't forget to join the Modeler Community to share your feedback and suggest improvements to these in-development features.

Substance 3D Modeler Beta 1.12.50 overview

Beta 1.12.50 brings some quality of life features such as a Recent projects tab on the home page, the ability to change the axis of symmetry and repetition, and a series of visual improvements. This release also introduces some performance and visual improvements to the primitives workflow.

Check the features below to see what experimental features are currently available in the Substance 3D Modeler Public Beta.

Non-destructive primitives

Primitives bring a new type of object to Modeler that enables a new non-destructive workflow. Primitives let you use booleans between basic shapes to create complex geometry.

UI improvements and new experimental UI

Changes have been made to a number of panels including the Palette in VR, the Actions menu, and the Bottom bar.

You can also now access multiple up-res algorithms, just right click the Increase resolution button to access Legacy, Smooth, or Shape Detection up-res algorithms.

The Beta also makes a new Light theme available, and incorporates many visual improvements to controls and UI layout.

Modeler V1.12.50 full release notes

Features:

  • Added a tab to see recent scenes in the Welcome menu. Click Recent Projects at the top of the Welcome menu. On first launch the list will be empty, but as you save scenes in Modeler, the list will be populated.
  • You can now change the axis used for symmetry and repetition.
  • Added a Troubleshooting section to the Preferences menu to manage crash reports.
  • Introduced a series of visual improvements
    • Added a new Light theme.
    • Added a default background color based on the currently selected theme to the Environment panel.
    • Updated the appearance of many UI elements to be more readable.
  • It’s now possible to change resolution or apply a material while within a primitive container.
  • After importing, any imported mesh or clay will be in focus.
  • Changed the names of primitive combine options from Union, Subtract, and Intersect, to Add, Carve, and Intersect.
  • Improved passthrough so that it now works over airlink on applicable heasets.

Fixes:

  • Decreased GPU memory usage by up to 50%, especially for heavy scenes. This means general improvements in stability and performance.
  • Upgraded to a newer OpenXR version that ` support for some controllers and headsets.
  • Changing visibility of linked primitive objects now works correctly.
  • While Limit visibility to scope is turned on in the outliner, clicks that will change the outliner view drastically because they change the current scope, no longer allow you to drag the object. Instead, the scope will change, changing the visibility of objects in the Outliner. You can then click and drag objects at the current scope.
  • Fixed an issue where primitive scale handles could disappear.
  • Fixed an export crash that could occur when static meshes were included.
  • Fixed a bug where the primitive scale handles could disappear.
  • Symmetry buttons are now disabled for primitives.
  • Fixed an issue converting primitives to clay could cause artifacts that only became visible on reloading the scene or performing certain operations.
  • Fixed a bug where converting a primitive to clay, performing sculpt actions and then increasing resolution would lose the sculpt actions.
