Version 3.0 (Beta)

This update adds Generative Background, powered by Adobe Firefly, to quickly create virtual photography backdrops.  Also included is an interactive denoiser, a new select tool option, and dozens of new materials included in the starter assets.


Generative backgrounds

Rapidly create unique background images with Generative Background, powered by Adobe Firefly.  Generative Background uses Match Image technology to align the camera perspective and lighting, making it effortless to show your designs in context and save time sharing concepts.


Updated Select tool

Quickly perform the most frequent move, rotate, and scale actions with the updated Select tool.  Designed to work in 3D space while staying oriented to your screen, the new interface makes it easy to use at any camera angle.  Toggle quickly to the standard Select tool to access the full transform functions.


Interactive denoiser

See higher quality results fast in design mode.  This new render setting runs a high speed denoiser after every interaction, so you get clear previews fast, helping you make design decisions more efficiently.


Improved realtime translucency

Glass, plastics, and liquids now have refraction in the real time view, giving you a better estimate of how light will bend when passing through these objects.


Expanded starter material library

Enjoy over dozens of new starter materials.  Get professional results in seconds using the default presets or customize dozens of parameters to fine tune the exact look and feel for your project.

Summary : This release brings Generative Background and other updates from the Beta application to the main application, along with additional fixes and enhancements.

  • All previous changes from 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 available in the Substance 3D Stager (Beta) application are now available in the Substance 3D Stager application.
  • Added error dialogues for Generative Background (Beta) when using disallowed terms that violate the user agreement.
  • Mac OS minimum has been increased to Mac OS 12 Monterey
  • Publish to web will be removed in a future update.  A notification has been added in-app.
  • Updated CAD file format imports via Hoops Exchange for the latest support and fixes.

  • Added the Generative Background panel to create virtual photography backgrounds.
  • Updated Match Image for improved perspective confidence.  Match Image will now successfully match perspective more often.
  • Added Content Credentials integration.  Content created using Generative Background will have content credentials applied.

  • Added a preference for auto-deleting unused materials from the material panel when a file is closed.
  • Added a preference for drag-n-drop model import to ignore cursor placement.
  • Added a tooltip with environment light full name on hover.
  • Added default environment light to the starter assets.
  • Objects will import to the scene origin when enabled.
  • Removed environment stages from the starter assets.
  • Removed support for Substance models (SBSM format).
  • Updated several UI colors for improved contrast.

  • Fixed an issue with USD export having incorrect normals and shading.
  • Fixed an issue with USD export not normalizing light scale.
  • Fixed an issue with USD export where spotlights were being converted to sphere lights.
