In the unlikely event of Illustrator crashing, learn how to share the crash report and logs with Adobe to help resolve the issue.

Windows

Error report on Windows applies to Illustrator CC October 2017 (version 22.0) and later releases.

Issue

On rare occasions, right after Illustrator crashes, you may see an Error Report for Adobe Illustrator dialog.

Don't close the dialog.

Capture details and share

Perform these steps to capture the crash details:

  1. In the Error Report For Adobe Illustrator dialog, do the following:

    • In the Please tell us what led to the error field, type in the details of the workflow you followed that led to the crash.
    • Check Adobe may contact me for fixes and workarounds at, and enter your email address.

  2. Click Send report to submit the crash report to Adobe. 

  1. In Windows search, type msinfo32 and press Enter to open the System Information window.

  2. In the System Information window, choose File > Save. 

  3. Save the file on the desktop as Illustrator.nfo.

  4. If Illustrator crashes on opening a specific file, copy that file to the desktop.

  1. Create a .zip folder with the following files: 

    • Illustrator.nfo
    • Copy of the specific file that causes Illustrator to crash (if applicable)

  2. Send the .zip folder to sharewithai@adobe.com.

macOS

Error report on macOS applies to all Illustrator versions.

Issue

On rare occasions, you may see an Adobe Illustrator quit unexpectedly dialog after Illustrator crashes.

Don't close the dialog.

Capture details and share

Perform these steps to capture the crash details:

  1. Click Report in the Adobe Illustrator quit unexpectedly dialog.

  2. Copy the information displayed in the dialog.

  3. Launch TextEdit and paste the copied information.

  4. Save the text file on your desktop as Illustrator_crash_log.

  5. Close the Adobe quit unexpectedly dialog. The Error Report for Adobe Illustrator dialog appears onscreen.

  6. In the Error Report For Adobe Illustrator dialog, do the following:

    1. In the Please tell us what led to the error field, type in the details of the workflow you followed that led to the crash.
    2. Check Adobe may contact me for fixes and workarounds at, and enter your email address.

  7. Click Send report to submit the crash report to Adobe. 

 If the Error Report for Adobe Illustrator dialog doesn't appear, then ignore steps 6 and 7. Continue with the steps below.

  1. Choose Application > Utilities > Terminal.

  2. Type sudo sysdiagnose in the Terminal window.

  3. Enter your password and press Return.

  4. Again, press Return.

    After the process completes, the log files are saved in the temp folder and the folder location opens automatically.

  5. Copy sysdiagnose_...tar.gz from the temp folder to the desktop.

  6. If Illustrator crashes on opening a specific file, copy that file to the desktop.

  1. Create a .zip folder with the following files:

    • Illustrator_crash_log 
    • sysdiagnose_...tar.gz
    • Copy of the specific file that causes Illustrator to crash (if applicable)

  2. Send the .zip folder to sharewithai@adobe.com.
