Adding an input field to an Adobe Captivate project

In the Visual Properties panel, the Content Width slider and Horizontal Padding are linked in the Alignment and Spacing section. Moving the slider from the left side changes the left padding value, and moving the slider from right changes the right padding value. The same change is replicated in the Content Width slider when you change the left or right Horizontal padding values.

If you want to add padding at the top or bottom of the selected content block, then enter the desired values for the Top and Bottom padding by changing the values in Vertical padding.

The Autofit height checkbox also considers other objects on the slide and adjusts the height of the input field to fit in the maximum available height within the slide. 

Select a design option. A design option presents pre-configured layouts with cleaner design elements to apply to the content block.

In the Components section, you can change the following:

• Label: Add or remove the input field's label.
• Input field: This option remains disabled.
• Button: Add or remove a button in the content block. Move the slider to increase or decrease the number of buttons. To learn more about buttons, view Buttons in Adobe Captivate.
• Card: Add or remove a card around the input field.

In the Appearance section, you can change the color settings at the content block level. Add the background color, border, and apply a shadow to the border. Select a solid color, linear or radial gradient, or add an image as a background.

If you've selected Card, in the Card section, you can increase or decrease padding to the card, add a radius to one or four corners of the card, add a background color, add a border to the card, and apply a shadow to the card's border.

Select the input field.

In the Visual Properties panel in the right toolbar, move the Opacity slider to increase or decrease the transparency of the placeholder text in the input field.

Select any design option. A design option presents pre-configured layouts with cleaner design elements to apply to the input field.

In the States section, click Show to launch the States Flyout. Configure the input field states, Active, Disabled, Focus lost, and Error. If any state is disabled, right-click the state, and select Enable.

Select an input type for the answer in the Settings section in the input field. The options are:

• Text: Select this field for users to enter only text-based data.
  
• Numbers: Select this field for users to enter numeric data.
• Password: Displays asterisks in the input field to indicate that the box is a password field.
• Uppercase: All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to uppercase, even if users type them in lowercase.
  
• Lowercase: All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to lowercase, even if users type them in uppercase.

Click Add answers to launch the Answer options dialog.

In the Answer options dialog, enter the possible answers for the learner to enter in the input field and click Save.

Select the Case sensitive checkbox if you want the learner to enter the answer exactly as you've entered in the Answer options dialog, with all the upper and lowercase letters typed correctly.

Select the variable name in the Variable dropdown that stores the value that learners enter in the input field. Learn more about variables in Variables in Adobe Captivate.

After you add the answers, select the number of attempts for a learner to answer the question in the Attempts dropdown.

In the Appearance section, change the size of the text placeholder in the input field. Select Small, Medium, or Large.

In the Appearance section, change the input field's color in the Shape tab. Add background color and shadows, and apply a border. Select one of the caps (Butt, Round, or Projecting) when applying a border.

In the Reporting section, select the checkbox Include in quiz if you want the quiz to be included in an LMS. Each scorable unit of Captivate is automatically assigned a unique Interaction ID. This Interaction ID is what makes data tracking by the LMS possible.
