Overview

Question pools allow authors to create, manage, and reuse sets of questions for quizzes or assessments that provide the following benefits:

  • Randomization: Question pools prevent quiz predictability by presenting participants with different question selections, ensuring fairness
  • Reusability: They provide a categorized repository of questions, allowing efficient reuse across courses or modules.
  • Customization: Authors can align questions with learning objectives and modify them accordingly, saving time during course development.
  • Diverse question types: Pools support various question types (multiple choice, true/false, match, sequence, and short answer).

Topics in this page:

Add a random question slide

Random question slides are linked with a question pool and facilitates the random selection of questions when a course is being taken. Whenever learners attempt the course, they are presented with a question picked randomly from the pool.

  1. Select    to add a new slide from the slide navigator on the left.

  2. Select Random from Question slides to insert a random question slide.

    Add a random question slide

This random question slide will serve as a placeholder for learners to receive a quiz question randomly selected from the linked question pool. Ensure to include any slide interactions on this random slide as well.

    Note:

You have the option to insert several random question slides throughout the course. With the slide navigator, you can swiftly navigate to these slides to modify the associated question pool for each.

  3. In the Question Properties section, add the points and penalty for correct and wrong answers respectively.

  4. In Reporting section, select the checkbox Report answer if you want the quiz to be included in an LMS. Each scorable unit of Captivate is automatically assigned a unique Interaction ID. This Interaction ID is what makes data tracking by the LMS possible.

Import questions to a question pool

Questions can be added to a question pool by importing them from assets or a CSV file. Importing questions via a CSV enables the bulk addition of questions, which simplifies quiz management, while assets offer a collection of pre-designed question slides for easy inclusion in your project. This feature offers multiple advantages, such as the rapid addition of numerous questions, streamlined management of large quizzes, and a reduction in manual entry mistakes.

Import CSV

Add questions to a question pool by importing them from a CSV file. This feature streamlines the process of populating your question pool, especially when dealing with large sets of questions. Learn more about importing a CSV as questions.

  1. Edit any question pool.

  2. Select   from the left toolbar to add new questions, and then select Import CSV.
