Learn how to correct and alter the perspective and alignment of an image.

Follow along with any project to learn how to crop and resize image.

  1. On the Lightroom on the web homepage, select All Photos.

  2. Select an image to open it in detail view, and then select Crop & Rotate .

  3. Navigate to the Geometry panel. From the Upright menu, select an option to apply the correction to the photo.

    • Auto: Corrects both vertical and horizontal perspective while balancing the overall image, preserving as much of the visible image area as possible.
    • Level: Corrects horizontal perspective.
    • Vertical: Corrects vertical perspective.
    • Full: Combines all Upright correction types to automatically correct perspective.
    • Guided:  Draw up to two guides on your image to customize perspective correction. Learn more about how to use Guided Upright tool.
    Geometry is highlighted in the Crop and Rotate panel with different Upright option such as Auto, level, vertical, Full and Guided are displayed.
    Straighten out your image with Geometry.

  4. Select Manual Transformations to fine-tune the perspective corrections such as Distortion, Vertical, Horizontal, Rotate, Aspect, Scale, X Offset, and Y Offset.

  5. Select Share .

Tip:

When correcting an image's perspective, you may get white areas near the image boundaries. To prevent this, select the Constrain Crop option to automatically crop the image according to the original dimension.

Using Guided Upright Tool

Guided Upright tool is used for correcting perspective distortions in photos, especially for images of buildings or interiors where lines can appear tilted. If you chose the Upright mode as Guided:

  1. Select on your image to draw two or more guides along vertical or horizontal lines that should be straight.

    Note:

    Lightroom will automatically correct the perspective.
