Learn how to subtract a mask using the Masks panel.

Subtracting from the mask reduces the masking effect of the image.

Before you begin:

Ensure the image already has a mask.

  1. On the Lightroom on the web homepage, select All Photos.

  2. Select an image to open it in detail view, and then select Masking

  3. Select Subtract to make additional local adjustments to the same mask. 

    Mask tool panel is shown with the Subtract option highlighted. The panel also has options to Show overlay, Create new mask, and Add mask. The Refine slider is set to 50.
    Select the Refine slider to refine the masks.

  4. From the Subtract from Mask using panel, select a masking tool to subtract from the parent mask.

  5. Select Save.
