About Adobe Multi-SCORM Packager

Using Adobe Multi SCO Packager you can combine multiple elearning projects that contain Shareable Content Objects (SCOs).

Combining multiple learning projects is useful when different modules developed by many authors have to be bundled into a single package. Adobe Multi SCO Packager can combine:

  • Adobe Captivate Classic® project output: ZIP files with SCORM settings. The project must contain at least one scorable object.

  • Adobe® Flash® learning interactions (SWF files that use LMS Adapter for tracking). Publish a FLA file containing learning interaction objects as a SWF file.

  • Quiz created using Adobe Flash. Publish a FLA file containing the quiz as a SWF file.

  • Quiz created using Adobe® Presenter. Publish a ZIP output of the presentation.

  • Quiz created using CourseBuilder extension for Adobe Dreamweaver® (converted to SCORM package).

  • A combination of the above types.

When you publish the packaged file, a ZIP file containing all the SCOs, and a manifest file are generated. You can directly upload the generated ZIP file to an LMS.

Adobe Multi SCO Packager creates a table of contents (TOC) using the names of the separate modules.

Package multiple SCOs

  1. Ensure that you have the ZIP (Adobe Captivate Classic, Adobe Presenter) or SWF (Adobe Flash) files of all the required elearning projects (SCOs).

  2. Open Adobe Multi SCO Packager. To do so, click File > New Project > Multi-SCORM Packager.

    The Welcome screen appears.

  3. Click one of the following templates:

    Multiple SCOs

Allows you to add SCOs as individual files. However, you cannot group the files into modules.

You can add multiple assessments using this template. The final score reported to the LMS is the average user score across the assessments.

    Simple Remediation

Allows you to add multiple modules. In each module, you can add content files and post-tests. You can add different weightages to each of these modules, total amounting to 100%. The score reported to the LMS is the average of the weightages that users score in individual modules.

Users can take the post-test only after viewing all the content files.

    Pre-test Or Post-test Rollup

Allows you to add multiple modules, each containing pretests, content, and post-tests.

For every module, users are allowed to take pretest first; content and post-tests are disabled. If users pass the pretest, they are considered to have completed the module and the subsequent module is enabled. If users fail the pretest, the content files are enabled, and after they complete viewing all the content files, the post-tests are enabled. You can add different weightages to each of the modules, total amounting to 100%. The score reported to the LMS will be the average of the weightages that users score in individual modules.

  4. Specify the manifest details for the course you want to create and click OK.

    SCORM Version

Specify the version of SCORM (1.2 or 2004) based on the LMS you are using.

    Identifier

The identifier used by the LMS to identify different manifests.

    Title

The title of your project that is displayed to the user viewing the project using an LMS.

    Description

The text that the LMS displays to describe your project.

    Version

The version specifies a number that can be used to differentiate manifests with the same identifier. For example, if you are uploading the same project after modifying it, use a different version number.

    Duration

The time required for learners to complete the project.

    Subject

The subject of your Adobe Captivate Classic course.

  5. If you chose Multiple SCOs as the template, do the following:

    1. Click the ‘+’ icon to add the SCOs to the package.

    2. Select Force Module Sequence to ensure that your users go through the files in the order you see in the packager. In the TOC of the published course, your users can see all file names, but will not be able to click a file before completingthe previous file.

    3. Click the Publish icon to publish the course.

  6. If you chose Simple Remediation as the template, do the following:

    1. Click the + Module to add a new module.

    2. Click + icon in the Content accordion to add content files (SCOs).

    3. Click + icon in the Post-test accordion to add post-test.

    4. Double-click Weightage and type the weightage for the module in percentage.

    5. Select Force Content Sequence to ensure that your users go through the content and post-test files in the order you see in the packager. In the TOC of the published course, your users can see all file names, but will not be able to click a file before completingthe previous one.

    6. Select Force Module Sequence to ensure that your users go through the modules in the order you see in the packager. In the TOC of the published course, your users can see all module names, but will not be able to click a module before completingthe previous one.

    7. Click the Publish icon to publish the course.

  7. If you chose Pretest or Post-test Rollup template, do the following:

    1. Click the + Module to add a new module.

    2. Click + icon in the Pretest accordion to add pretests.

    3. Click + icon in the Content accordion to add content files (SCOs).

    4. Click + icon in the Post-test accordion to add post-tests.

    5. Double-click Weightage and type the weightage for the module in percentage.

    6. Select Force Content Sequence to ensure that your users go through the content and post-test files in the order you see in the packager. In the TOC of the published course, your users can see all file names, but will not be able to click a file before completingthe previous one.

    7. Select Force Module Sequence to ensure that your users go through the modules in the order you see in the packager. In the TOC of the published course, your users can see all module names, but will not be able to click a module before completingthe previous one.

    8. Click the Publish icon to publish the course.

  8. If the SCO has been created in Flash, the SCO Manifest Details dialog box appears. Enter the details. The SCO Identifier and Title are mandatory fields. SCO Identifier must be unique for each SCO and the final course must have a corresponding entry in the imsmanifest.xml file.

  9. Click OK.

Publish the packaged files

After you have created and saved a multi-SCO project, you can publish it as a ZIP file that contains a SWF and an HTM file. You can directly upload the ZIP file to a learning management system (LMS).

  1. Open the Multi SCO project in the SCORM Packager.

  2. Click Publish MultiSCO Project.

  3. In the Publish SCO Package dialog box, enter a name for the project in the Project Title field.

  4. Click Browse to publish your file to an alternative location.

  5. Click Publish.

The packaged ZIP file contains resource files of each SCO contained in individual folders and XSD files and imsmanifest.xml at the root level. If you change the structure of any SCO by changing the location of XSDs or imsmanifest.xml, the packager might not work as intended. Also, the version of SCORM must be same for all courses that go into a single package. However, the ActionScript version need not be the same.

Upload packaged files to LMS

After publishing the packaged files as a ZIP file, upload the ZIP file to your LMS. You can then distribute the URL that the LMS generates to your users.

When users click the URL to take the course, the interactions are reported based on the options you have chosen. If the package that you upload to LMS contains multiple Adobe Captivate Classic SWF files with different reporting options, then:

  • The report status is always reported as Complete or Incomplete.

  • The data is always reported as Percentage.
