Learn how to create a mask for specific areas in a photo with the Brush tool.

The Brush tool lets you paint your mask manually for more detailed selections.

  1. On the Lightroom on the web homepage, select All Photos.

  2. Select an image to open it in detail view, and then select Masking .

  3. Within the Masks panel, select Create new mask

  4. Select Brush.

  5. Adjust the sliders for the following options:

    • SizeSpecifies the diameter of the brush tip in pixels.
    • FeatherCreates a soft-edged transition between the brushed area and the surrounding pixels. The distance between the inner and outer circle of the brush represents the feather value.
    • FlowControls the rate of application of the adjustment.
    • DensityControls the amount of transparency in the stroke.
  6. Select and drag the Brush tool over the areas you want to edit.

    Tip:

    Select Auto Mask to confine the brush strokes to areas of similar color.

  7. Control the overall selected area of the Brush mask using the Amount slider.
